Hiking and Climbing

If climbing and hiking is your cup of tea then you'll find Edinburgh a good place to be. Bonaly is situated at the foot of the rolling Pentland hills. Routes recommended by the local Pentland Hills Ranger service are available. For the more adventurous, the Munros, Ben Lomond and Ben Vorlich are only a couple of hours drive away. 

Within an hour's drive are a number of sites ideal for outdoor climbing including Rosyth Quarry, Traprain, Salisbury Crags (permit required), Aberdour, Ratho Quarry and Blackford Quarry. Alien Rock in Newhaven and Hadrian's Wall in Falkirk, two of Britain's finest climbing walls are only 30 minutes drive away. Of course, if you just want a taste of what climbing is all about Bonaly has it's own outdoor climbing wall.

Water sports

Longcraig Scout Water Activities Centre is 30 minutes drive from Bonaly. It is situated beside the impressive Forth Rail Bridge where dinghy sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, and sail cruising are all available with instruction

Swimming

Edinburgh has many swimming pools including the Royal Commonwealth Pool and Wester Hailes Education Centre Pool.

Pony Trekking

The Edinburgh and Lasswade Riding Centre is 30 minutes away. It can provide all the equipment and instruction you need for a few hours pony trekking. 

Skiing

The largest artificial ski slope in Europe is situated just a few miles from Bonaly at Hillend. .
