The Bonaly Active Support

Actively supports the Centre and oversees the  volunteer work at the Centre.  The members are kept busy doing a wide range of tasks.  These include

  

fencing
painting
grass cutting
general maintenance
catering
staffing the Tuck Shop
gardening
helping to run events
helping young people take part in activities

     

Members of the Active Support Unit must be age 18 years or over and able to commit to membership of the Scout Association including Disclosure Scotland procedures.  Members are part of South East Scotland Region Scouts.

The Unit works in support of Barry the Centre Manager and undertakes a wide range of tasks both at the Centre and in the community to promote the Centre.  2011 is a very special year for the Centre as it celebrates 80 years of camping and outdoor programmes for young people.   There is a Birthday Party to which Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts from across the Region are invited on 11 June and between 13 and 25 June the local library in Colinton has kindly agreed to host a photographic exhibition.  Further events are being planned for later in the year.

Isabel is the Active Support Manager and looks after the membership and the organisation.  Diane organises the programme of events and activities while Ronnie plans and oversees the voluntary work on the maintenance and upkeep of the site.

There is always room for more folk to do things at Bonaly.  The Unit is keen to encourage new members.  There are opportunities to volunteer to do almost anything and because there are some experts around this is an ideal opportunity for young people, in particular, to gain experience which can often be accredited and added to a CV.   There are a number of social activities offered throughout the year as well as training if required.  There is no minimum time commitment but there are busy and quieter times throughout the year so there is never a time without something to be done.

Tuck Shop

The Unit support and staff the Tuck Shop which is open each Saturday evening from the beginning of May until the end of September from 6.30 -7.30pm

Campfires

Campfires are traditionally a highlight of Scouting outdoors.  Bonaly offers a campfire on the first Friday of the months from May to September to those camping and anyone else who cares to come along.     Start time is 9.00pm and the campfire will last for about an hour.
